- AFNS-Funded Projects
In June 2024, AFNS commissioned the White Helmets to map local actors in northern Syria, including smaller NGOs, Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), and Women-Led Organisations (WLOs).
This mapping is an essential step towards our localisation goals and the development of the upcoming Anchor Organisation Model. This model will enable larger "anchor" organisations to identify and direct funding to community-based groups that, despite their impactful work, lack access to conventional funding sources.
AFNS eagerly anticipates the results of the White Helmets’ mapping of approximately 500 local actors, including 39 WLOs, and looks forward to collaborating with these dedicated partners in our upcoming third regular allocation.
Among the many inspiring individuals identified through this exercise is Maryam, a 32-year-old community leader who founded the Syrian Women Empowerment Active Response. Her organisation empowers marginalised women in Jisr al-Shugur, Idleb, by providing life skills that enhance their financial independence. Inspired by what she observed abroad, Maryam has, within two years, built a team of 15 women and positively impacted 1,500 people in the area.
This World Humanitarian Day, AFNS stands with the global community in honouring the courageous efforts of humanitarian workers like Maryam, whose dedication embodies the spirit of the 2024 World Humanitarian Day’s #ActForHumanity campaign.
